Tax Holiday

Thanks to our elected officials, this weekend began the Fall version of the Tax Holiday here in Tennessee. The basis for the “holiday” is to help families prepare for the uncoming school year by being able to buy school supplies, computers, and clothing without paying any sales tax, thus saving somewhere around 10%.

Also being the first of the month, state and federal support checks made the way out to mailboxes around the area, ensuring that there was some fatter wallets to many more potential shoppers. Add these two things together and you get a recipe for busy malls and department stores.

I stopped at Kohls to take advantage of the tax break and also found they were offering extra incentives to shop there as well. I picked up quite a few bargains and got out of there with a $20 credit off my next purchase. Score for me. Oddly enough, there weren’t that many shoppers out and about at the Kohls, but it appeared there were plenty of cars at the mall. Granted, this was late in the evening and perhaps I missed most of the crowds, but only time will tell if this weekend will help the economy as well as all the families of students. I know, I for one benefited from a new wardrobe… That’s good enough for me.

Ramble on…

Welcome to my front porch!

You know those people who sit on their front porch and like to gossip and gab about the days events? Well, that’s me. I’m the Rambler and I like to talk about the goings-on around me and how things affect MY life. No matter the subject, you may find me talking about some national news or some local event that just gets me all tore up. From sports, to road conditions, to just odd things I see from my front porch, you never know what you’ll find here.

So pull yourself up a rocking chair and visit with me. And if you’ve got something to add, by all means let me know. It doesn’t mean I’ll agree with you or like what you have to say, but I’ll give it a listen.

Again… Welcome to my front porch!
